2045.05 - The Long Beach Independent - Oustanding Pitching Performances

Post by Lane » Mon Jan 25, 2021 10:00 am

The regular season is about to come to a close, let's look at some outstanding pitching performances in Long Beach this season.

Danya
Of course we have to start with Danya Tchekanov. The 28 year old ace of the staff is having another spectacular season. With one start to go, he's got an ERA of 2.64 and a career best 234 strikeouts in 208 innings pitched. He's also posting career best numbers in BB/9 with just 22 walks on the season. His 8 WAR is second only to his 8.7 number in his 2041 Nebraska winning campaign.

His best game came on September 13th against the Portland Lumberjacks. In 8 innings, he struck out 15, allowing 1 run on 2 hits and walking none.

He was a hard luck loser on 9/19 in a critical game against Hawaii, as he allowed 2 unearned runs over 6.1 innings while striking out 9. The Surfers have loosened the reigns a bit this month, as they allowed him to throw 103 pitches over 8 innings in his most recent win against Seattle. He allowed just 1 run on 5 hits in the win, his 15th of the season.

Ernesto
Twenty-four year old Ernesto Delgado has taken a bit of a step back this season, but has still had moments of brilliance. One of those was on July 3rd against the Vancouver Mounties. He pitched 7.2 innings, struck out 10, walked none and allowed just 4 hits. By game score, it was his finest start of the season. By playoff implications, his biggest start came just last week against Hawaii. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed just 2 hits, no walks and no runs to earn his 13th win of the season.

Cornelio
Finally, reliever extraordinaire Cornelio Lozano. The thirty year old is proving that 2044 was no fluke by being even better this season. Over 146 innings, he's got a 0.99 ERA (backed up by an insane 0.84 FIP) and he's struck out 335 batters. He's allowed only 16 runs on the season, and only 2 since August 6th. He should be a shoe-in for a second consecutive Jason Egan Reliever Award, and should earn some votes in the Nebraska voting as well.
