SURFERS NEWS AND NOTES

Surfers Win Pacific
With their 8-5 win over Sacramento on Sunday, the Surfers clinched the Frick League Pacific division. This is their first division title since 2031, which is also the last year that they won 100 games. At 99-61 there's two left to play against Hawaii to see if they can win 100 for the 4th time in the modern era.

Carpenter Still Out
Yrrigs Carpenter remains sidelined with shoulder bursitis and will likely miss the entirety of the playoffs. The 28 year old righty got off to a hot start this year but faded as the summer months arrived. His most recent turn in the rotation was taken by 30 year old career minor leaguer Wang-fen Law who pitched brilliantly against the Mad Popes but would not be a serious contender for a playoff roster spot.

Tchekanov's Strong Finish
Locked in a tight race for the Frick League Nebraska Award, Danya Tchekanov pitched 14 consecutive scoreless innings in his 34th and 35th starts of the season to lower his ERA to a BBA-best 2.36. His WAR of 6.8 is 3rd in the Frick behind Nebraska competitors Carlos Valle of Yellow Springs, and Alaric Wullenweber of division rival Hawaii.

FL Wild Card is Wild
With Hawaii locking up the first wild card spot in the Frick, five teams remain within 1 game of each other for the final three spots. Seattle, Chicago, Omaha, Nashville, and Louisville each have a chance to win one of the remaining spots. It will be a wild finish, and Surfer fans may be rooting for tiebreakers to be played to further tire out the pitching of the team that they will face in the Doubleday Series.

Tchekanov and Valle are making it a tough call for me to make on my vote. Wullenweber is a distant third.

I think Wullenweber's FIP and K's keep him in the conversation but they're all close enough that I can let my bias win out for my vote...haha.
