Hi, it's me, Anthony Light the author of this Op-Ed. I'm also the author of the infamous "Angry, Anonymous Op-Ed" that you may remember reading all the way back in December of '35.

Surely you'll understand that as the manager of the Surfers I couldn't make myself known. I would have been out of a job! [Ed. Note: He worked only 1 more season in Long Beach] However, even though I couldn't make my identity known, I had to speak out. I mean, I was the one saddled with deciding how to arrange the garbage roster I was handed.

GM Lane was a threat to the organization, and a threat to the BBA at large. The market demanded more from that team, and the front office with Lane at the helm was just not capable.

Why am I making myself known now, almost 9 years later? Well, the Surfers are "good" again, and this time the threat is even more significant. The principles of team building that they have demonstrated are abhorrent. Big-money free agent deals? Turning relievers into starters just to make them pitch out of the bullpen anyway? No bunts, no intentional walks. Trying to cover up terrible drafting with questionable trades and signing of old, overrated players?

The whole of the BBA is at risk if this model is followed any longer. My hope now is that with my name attached to these criticisms, I will be taken seriously and the league will act to remove this vile figure.

I laughed at the original reference and I laugh again now. Only thing better would be to make it the bench coach.
