2044.02 - The Long Beach Independent - Surfers Declared Winners of Offseason
SURFERS WIN OFFSEASON
Mad Popes Mad, Bears to Remain in Hibernation
February 26, 2044
Long Beach, CA
On the eve of Spring Training, the BBA Offseason Report indicates that there's a clear winner of the '43-'44 offseason. By a margin of 3.2 WAR, the Long Beach Surfers are the champions.
In a close second place, the Omaha Hawks Cyclones added 15.4. Despite the mega signing of highly overrated and overpayed SS Pedro Diaz the Seattle Storm added only 8 WAR.
Turning our attention to the Surfer's "competition" in the Frick League Pacific, we see a disappointing performance by the San Fernando Bears who are a net negative 3.7 WAR, adding only a couple of mediocre hitters, despite losing two of their best pitchers.
That brings us to the soon to be laughingstock of the FLP, the Sacramento Mad Popes. After losing a total of 16.6 WAR from last years squad, mostly from a couple of decent pitchers in Luis Gracia (still a FA) and Cisco Morales[/url] (now with PHX). The Ma'Po's did add a decent outfielder in Ramon Pagan, but that's really just sad for the 26 year old, as the rigged park in Sacremento is sure to destroy a promising career.
Sacramento, in further efforts to build a Quad-A Squad, drafted not one, not two, but THREE Rule 5 players. We should acknowledge that the MPs have had a decent run the past few years, but unfortunately for their fans, it seems to have come to a stumbling, bumbling end.
Don't forget to call and reserve your season tickets for the Long Beach Surfers, the BBA's 2043-2044 Offseason Champions. You don't want to miss any of the exciting action as they carry this momentum forward into another Frick League Pennant.

For the record, I tried drafting four Rule 5 guys, but the rest of the league got their grimy tentacles on my targets.

Here in san fernando we don't worry about winning the offseason, we just do our winning in the regular season.

Lane, have you already asked @scottsdale_joe to create a banner for your achievement?

I haven't. Figured I'd just wait until he's working on my Landis banner at the end of the season.

Not sure subtracting Carlos Gonazles counts as much as you want it to.

I'm really liking this Newly Found Confidence Lane. Man oh man, the Pacific Division is going to be a bloodbath this year.

The Pacific is the division that knocked Chicago out of the playoffs last season.

Ah, yes. The same division that folded like a cheap suit to Louisville. Of the Heartland!
