FRUSTRATED BRACKETT LASHES OUT

September 17, 2043
Long Beach, CA

A rough season for SS Carey Brackett came to a head this evening in the second inning against the Sacramento Mad Popes. With Wilson Ford on first base, Brackett fouled off the first two pitches from future Surfer Luis Gracia. The next pitch was a 93 MPH fastball down at the knees, and was called strike three.

Brackett immediately threw down his bat, followed by his helmet. As the umpire stood in his position, Brackett turned to face him and yelled some words that we can't print in this family-friendly publication. Manager Vinnie Company ran to restrain the twenty-two year old rookie, but he wasn't quick enough. The shortstop was ejected from the game, and required the assistance of bench coach Mitchell Fitterer and hitting coach Fernando Garza to return to the dugout.

The 2043 season has been a struggle for Brackett, to say the least. After shooting up the LBC prospect rankings following last year's breakout AAA performance, some people within the organization saw him as the solution to the team's long-standing struggles at the SS position. He hit .292/.386/.532 in Commerce last season, after never playing a game above Short Season A ball. Not expected to be a star with the glove, he was unfortunately much worse than anyone anticipated. At the plate, his AAA success seemed to not translate to the BBA in any way, as he's hitting well under .200, with slugging and OBP below .300.

Given Brackett's struggles, and no prospects to speak of, one wonders what the plan for Long Beach is at shortstop going forward.
