2042.07 - The Long Beach Independent - GM Lane in Wobbly Chair?
CALECA SPOTTED IN LONG BEACH
June 2, 2042
Long Beach, CA
Following his departure from his position in Chicago, Vic Caleca somehow found himself in a position in the California front office. There's been speculation that he was planted in the Crusader's organization in order to steal "secrets" to help Chicago.
Which is odd, because the only secret in California is to rig your ballpark and gather a group of mediocre pitchers who just happen to never get injured. And it's really never been a secret.
However, after recent reports that Caleca was fired by California, rumors have been swirling around Long Beach. League pundits have opined that Long Beach GM Stephen Lane is on the hot seat due to the Surfers' recent performance. Some have gone as far as to say that the team should be relegated back to Tucson, where they spent 12 miserable losing seasons.
Fueling suspicions is a report from TMZ that Caleca was spotted having drinks with Long Beach owner O'Shea Jackson, Jr. in an upscale Long Beach hotel. It's been no secret that Jackson has been unhapppy with the last few seasons of Long Beach baseball as they've missed the playoffs and slipped under .500 last year. The 20-35 start to the 2042 season could end up being the straw that breaks the camel's back.
The Long Beach front office declined multiple attempts to comment for this article.

Long Beach would have to wait until he's done with his multi-continent search for the Sox's mythical International Complex …

No, I think I made a joke about moving back to Tucson because I'm in a little rebuild, and a couple people ran with it.

Ahh...good. I didn't see any rules and figured it was something like that.

Caleca's a bum. I hope he ends up in Long Beach.
Also, calling Luis Gracia a mediocre pitcher is fighting words. Meet me outside after school by the big tree.
