OFT-INJURED RELIEVER OUT WITH HERNIATED DISK
April 14, 2042
Long Beach, CA
Long Beach trainer Pepe Hogeda confirmed today that reliever Emilio Vega will be sidelined for 3-4 months with a herniated disk in his back. Vega, no stranger to injuries in his playing career, was unavailable for comment.
After a successful spring, where he posted a 6.14 ERA over 15 short appearances, he appeared ready to contribute to the team for the 2042 season. He started at AAA Commerce but was called upon following a first-week injury to Raul Chavarria.
He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings spanning 5 games, his most appearances for the club since his 13 in 2038. He became a Surfer as a Rule 5 draft pick from Chicago (nee Hunstville) on December 16, 2037. At the time, he was recovering from his second torn flexor tendon repair.
His 7.1 innings pitched in that 2038 season have yet to be matched at any level in any of the three seasons since. He's suffered through not just one, but two more flexor tendon repairs, not to mention a previously herniated disk in his back, and bouts of elbow soreness.
As it stands today, we'll mark the calendar for the All-Star break, and hope to see Emilio back in action. Maybe skip the minor league rehab, and maximize the BBA time, eh?

I can't imagine a real person actually going through all these injuries without retiring.
