TCHEKANOV AT HIS BEST ON FINAL DAY
October 1, 2041
Long Beach, CA
It was clear that most of Long Beach had moved on to football season, but for the 24,505 loyal fans that trekked to Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium today, they were treated to what was arguably the best start of the season for Danya Tchekanov.
The 24 year old right hander made the most of his final start to solidify a Nebraska-worthy 2041 season. Over 8 innings he allowed just one run on two hits while striking out 11 batters, a season high. The start put his innings pitched for the season at 207, not an insignificant feat for a Surfer's starter these days, and his ERA at 2.57.
On the offensive side, the 6-1 victory was spearheaded by rookie left fielder Pedro Avila who was 1/3 with a walk and 3 RBI. Avila's .294/.401/.503 line this year was an encouraging performance following a slightly disappointing cup of coffee last season.
At 70-92, this is the Surfers' worst season since 2027 (51-111) and first sub-.500 season since 2028 (71-91). The 7th place finish is perhaps even more shocking than the record, but regardless, with the 10th worst record in the league they will have an improved draft position. With any luck they may pick up a prospect or two in the 2042 draft that could be a contributor to the team in the near future.

The 3 year rolling average thingy we use kinda hurts you this year. Especially coming off last years 89 wins...

Yeah, it's not gonna get me a top ten pick but sometimes there's a big difference in a few spots in the middle of the first round. We'll see.
