LEGRAND TO PIONEERS FOR AAA PITCHER

August 25, 2041
Long Beach, CA

After signalling to the league that they were in sell mode, the Surfers made a significant trade today. Left handed starting pitcher was traded to the Calgary Pioneers of the Johnson League Frontier in exchange for twenty-one year old prospect Jorge Alfaro. Legrand, who signed a multi year extension with the Surfers before the 2040 season, joins an already solid Pioneer rotation that is currently in a dogfight with Boise for the division lead.

Alfaro, a right hander, projects as a solid mid-rotation arm with a peak of #2 starter in his prime. Rated with potentials of 7/8/5, he's a good fit for the slighty homer-friendly park in Long Beach. He's mastered his sinker and curveball, needing just a bit more work on his changeup, as many young pitchers do. Surfers management is apparently confident that he can develop the pitch, and join the core of the next great rotation with Ernesto Delgado and .

There is no word yet on any more trades in the works, though Long Beach would surely like to move one or two high-salary pitchers or any one of the hitters that are poised to become free agents at the end of this season. The team is on pace for it's first sub-.500 season since their 71-91 season in 2028. While it is surely a disappointment to fans, it's been a good run under the guidance of GM Stephen Lane, with 9 playoff appearances and one championship since he took over in 2026.
