2039.03 - The Long Beach Independent - Should Simpson Be Dealt?

SURFERS SHOULDN'T BE DECEIVED BY STANDINGS
OPINION

August 15, 2039
Long Beach, CA

This is not a playoff team. I know this. You know this. I bet even the players know this. Hopefully, the front office knows this.

It's 2039 not 2029. CarGo is 35. Greenwood is 33. Even Mark Simpson is 30.

Yeah, the Frick is a clusterf%#* right now, but the team is under .500 and there's a lot of teams to leapfrog just to win a wild card spot. There's no competing with San Fernando and Yellow springs this year. It's time to punt.

I'm not asking for a tank, or a rebuild. Just a refuel. I mean, you're not really going to sign him to an extension, right? It's clear that Miguel Suarez is here for one reason, and one reason only.

It's time to pull the trigger.Yeah, we love Mark just as much (probably more) than our absentee General Manager. Where is that guy, by the way? But Simpson is just getting old and expensive. It's been ten years since the last Landis. It's been four years since the team won 90 games.

There's some young talent on this team. They deserve the same shot that CarGo and Greenwood had in '29. It's okay to admit defeat for one season.

Time to say thank you, Mark Simpson. Best of luck in the future.

I'm thinking that he could probably re-sign him if he wanted to.

I suppose it depends on where Stephen sees the team as to whether he'd rather have a pick.

I dont think you are eligible for one either, because you didnt have him the full season (at least that is my understanding of the rule).

His demands fluctuated from very reasonable to way out of my budget over the course of the season. Probably would have signed him for cheap if I didn't have the $22M CargGo TO blocking the budget. I'm not sure how hard I'll go after him, it'll depend on how the expansion draft goes, and what the FA class looks like.
