The Gnarly Rager : 95.4 - June Players of the Month

Post by 7teen » Mon May 10, 2010 1:19 pm

After completing their best month of the season, here are the Long Beach Players of the Month for June...

Batter of the Month

Oscar Mazzarella
The Surfers offense continues to churn out some fine statistical months. In June, catcher Oscar Mazzarella hit .326/.375/.579 with 6 homeruns and 17 rbis. He led the team in average, OPS, and runs scored and ranked 2nd on the team for the month in homeruns (6), hits (31), and doubles (6). On the year, the 24 year-old backstop is batting .296/.338/.491 with 13 homeruns and 41 batted in. "The main thing we would like to see Oscar do more is draw more walks and strike out a little less" said manager Bugaloo Polinksi.

Pitcher of the Month

Pedro Martinez
I probably could have gone with Dibble again, whose June was nearly as spectacular as his May. But Pedro Martinez's month out of the bullpen was more impressive than Dibble's this time around. Martinez appeared in 13 games, tossing 24.1 innings. In those 24.1 innings, Martinez allowed just 1 earned run on 15 hits and 6 walks for an ERA of 0.37 and a WHIP of 0.86. He also struk out 21 batters. Martinez is recovering from a slow start to the season. Pedro is now 3-1 with 1 save and a 2.48 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 36.1 innings pitched this season.

AAA Player of the Month

Wilson Calderon
This 27 year old outfielder put up a fine month, batting .272/.315/.573 with 7 homeruns and 28 runs batted in. His average and OBP were on the low side, but he made up for it with his power numbers. Aside from his 7 bombs, Calderon also had 6 doubles and 2 triples. He led our AAA offense in rbis, homeruns, extra base hits and slugging percentage. On the season, Wilson is batting .250/.301/.470 with 17 homeruns and 66 rbis. He has solid power ability, but must get the average up if he's going to perform for Long Beach.

AA Player of the Month

Antonio Saldivar
It was slim pickings this month in Florence. The award this month goes to a part-timer who managed just 67 at-bats this month. But over those 67 ABs, Saldivar hit .343/.384/.537 with 3 homeruns and 9 rbis. Of course looking over his stats, he's not a part-timer. But for some reason, he didn't accumulate as many ABs as the other guys on the team. Not sure how to explain that considering he bats 3rd in both lineups...

A Player of the Month

Marcos "Duck" Latta
Latta is one of our top hitting prospects and he put on a clinic in the month of June. Latta hit .365/.481/.588 with 5 homeruns and 17 runs batted in. He narrowly edged out Lewis Chang who hit .322/.400/.632 with 7 homeruns and 21 rbis. I went with the higher average and on-base percentage over the power numbers. Not to mention Latta is a prospect and Chang is a roster filler.

fuck, Wilson Calderon. Trading for him was a noob right of passage in the old MBBA, he probably changed hands half a dozen times.

Yup, he's one of the late 20's guys who are still high talent and no production. I had him, I have one of the others (Javier Acaron).
