RECENTLY RETIRED P TO TAKE ROOKIE LEAGUE JOB

November 7, 2037
Long Beach, CA

Kevin Graham, the oft-injured and outspoken Canadian pitcher, has been offered a spot in the Long Beach coaching organization. He retired this season following another labrum injury (the third of his young career). He also underwent Tommy John surgery as a high schooler in 2031 prior to being drafted by the Havana Sugar Kings. He passed up this first BBA offer to spend a year at college, and was drafted by the Long Beach Surfers in the third round of the 2033 draft.

Well-liked by his teammates, they appreciated his easy going nature. He spent time at every Long Beach minor league affiliate, and even pitched for the Canadian team in the WCB in 2036.

Despite just 43 BBA innings over 18 appearances and 8 starts, he had developed a reputation as a righty killer. His combination of fastball, sinker and slider was gaining attention all over the league.

He will report to rookie league Cayucos where the organization hopes that he might be able to relay his formula for elite movement to the next generation(s) of Surfers pitchers. Said Graham, "I told them I won't be able to throw much BP, and they didn't seem to mind. Maybe I'll learn to throw left handed."

At just 23 years old when Cayucos opens their season next year, Graham will be the youngest coach in the organization, and perhaps the entire BBA. The team notes that it's not just a part time coaching job they're offering him. In addition to providing all medical care in support of his current recovery, they will cover 100% of any education that Graham wishes to pursue. "We want to enable Kevin to pursue whatever goals he has going forward. He'll have a job in the organization as long as he wants one, but he's free to study whatever he wants. Just as long as he's not setting his sights on becoming GM of the Surfers" said GM Stephen Lane.
