NOTHING TO DO IN THIS "SHIT TOWN"

The wife of longtime Surfer slugger Carlos Gonzales was unusually outspoken and candid with press at the Long Beach airport yesterday. Gonzales was recently traded back to the Surfers from the Boise Spuds, and caught up with the media after their charter flight from Idaho.

While Carlos was speaking of his love for the city and the fans, his wife was not but 15 feet away letting everyone know how she really feels. "A shit town with nothing to do and no good shops." Reporters mentioned that they smelled alcohol on her breath as she carried on about all the other "nice" cities throughout the BBA like Boise, Louisville, Huntsville, Wichita and Havana. A member of the pool tried to remind her that Havana no longer had a team, but couldn't break through her incoherent ramblings about horses, hay and rancheros. Someone asked if she'd ever been to Woodstock. Alabama but she did not respond.

When questioned about his wife's comments, Carlos said "Look, I love her," he said, "but I am not responsible for what she says to you guys. I love the city of Long Beach and plan to be here a long time. I love the country as much as she does, but I think she’s not as big a fan of the city life.”

The couple grew up on farms just a few miles apart in the Costa Rican countryside. Mrs. Gonzales’ comments certainly shed some light on Carlos choosing Boise over Long Beach this past offseason. Neither Gonzalez nor his wife commented on that decision, but as one fan put it, "I have a wife too and what she wants, she typically gets, even if she has to pull me there kicking and screaming.”
