GONZALES TO BOISE ON 3 YEAR DEAL

December 1, 2036
Long Beach, CA

Despite rumors of a 6 year offer from the Long Beach Surfers, start RF Carlos Gonzales has chosen to sign with their Frick League Frontier rivals, the Boise Spuds. The front loaded contract guarantees the 32 year old $66 million over the next three years, with a team option for a fourth year at $22 million. The Surfers would not confirm the exact offer that they presented to Gonzales, but sources indicate that it was a 6 year deal with a lower average annual value.

The left handed slugger leaves Long Beach with his name in nearly every top 10 list of offensive statistics, both career and single season. Most notably, he holds the Surfers single season record for home runs with 65, from his 9.1 WAR 2031 campaign that earned him his lone Sawyer Silk Silver Slugger award. He represented the Surfers at four All-Star Games and won three Charles Puckett Golden Bat awards for right field.

He was also the captain of the clubhouse, respected in Long Beach and across the BBA as one of the best leaders in the game today. That role will likely now fall to struggling SS J.J. McQuade (.279/.319/.435, 85 HR, 386 RBI), pending any free agent signings that may be in store this offseason.

If we had to guess about next years outfield, we'd say that Tom Kazansky (.280/.360/.434, 86 HR, 300 RBI) is the most likely candidate to take the bulk of the innings in RF, assuming top hitting prospect Carl von Meister is ready to take over the duties in center field. There's still a lot of offseason to go however, and with plenty of money to spend, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Surfers bring in a RF from free agency. There have been strong rumors about an offer being made to Chang-hyeok Chang (.321/.372/.456, 41 HR, 382 RBI) in the wake of Gonzales signing with Boise.

We here at The Independent wish CarGo the best of luck, and we do hope that we haven't seen the last of him in a Surfer uniform.

Tough to lose an integral part of the team.

Not sure why you didn’t give CVM some infield reps last year.

That's a good point. Guess I should get him some 2B at least. I think I just figured he'd be way more valuable in center than anywhere else.
