SIMPSON SLUGS .712 IN AWARD WINNING MONTH

Mark Simpson (8/8/8/9/6 Ratings), three time All Star, two time Yogi Zimmer awardee, and one time Charles Puckett winner added another accolade to his resume. In 2030 he was named rookie of the month twice, and he's been player of the week four times, but May brought his first Batter of he Month Award.

.308/.451/.712 11 HR, 9 2B, 27 BB, 27 RBI

"When you think 'professional hitter' you can't help but think of Mark right away. He's here every day putting in the work and putting up the numbers. I'm honored to be able to pencil him into the lineup ever single day" said manager Anthony Light. "I think he's hitting better than ever this year. Who knows, maybe this could finally be the year he wins the Silk."

Light may not be far off, as Simpson already has 20 HR and 49 RBI over the season's first two months. He's got his OBP up over .400 on the season and is slugging more than ever before. There was a lot of chatter about extra workouts over the offseason, and perhaps we're seeing the fruit of that labor now.

"You can't help but learn by example from him and how he goes about his business" said rookie second baseman Sloan Daniel (8/8/5/7/8 Ratings). "He's absolutely one of the best hitters in the game right now and I consider myself lucky to play here in Long Beach with him."

Simpson is not the most outspoken member of the team, but he did have this to say: "I just do my thing every day. I don't worry about awards, or records. I just try and help the team win and well I guess I had a pretty good month. But I just focus on the team, you know? We're hungry to get back to the playoffs."

I'm very pleased with him this season. I feel like he hasn't quite performed up to his potential the last few years so I'm hoping he's going to get back to what he was in 2031 and 2032 and compete for a Silk.
