2036.19 - The Long Beach Indepedent - Best Impressive in Surfers Poor Week

IMPRESSED? YOU BEST!

June 10, 2036
Long Beach, CA

Coming off of a series win against San Fernando, the Surfers had a chance this week to gain ground against the division leading California Crusaders. With that in mind, the front office demoted the struggling Victor Bedolla (.245/.298/.309, 2 HR, 17 RBI) in favor of the unproven and raw Michael Best (.368/.400/.632, 1 HR, 6 RBI). For his part, he did very well.

Best, in his first five games, is hitting .368/.400/.632 and has yet to go hitless. He played a big part in the lone victory against the Crusaders, knocking in three runs with his first BBA hit, clearing the bases with a line drive double down the right field line. Unfortunately for the team, it was just the precursor to a 4 game losing streak.

As with the series in April, they were unable to solve the pitching staff from Sacramento. The offensive woes carried over into the series against the Madison Wolves before breakout out for 8 runs in the series finale.

Coming up, they have three more home games (vs Yellow Springs) before embarking on a 9 game road trip to Edmonton, Omaha and Valencia.

Though it is still early in the season, the Surfers would do well to find some consistency and solidify their position in the Frick League Wild Card race. It looks as though California has solved their traditional early season struggles and the result has been running away with the FLP title early, and not giving it back. There's nothing wrong with a wild card berth, but it's shaping up to be another tight race.
