2036.18 - The Long Beach Independent - The Best Call

TOP PROSPECT CALLED UP

June 3, 2036
Long Beach, CA

It may be about time to dub 2036 "The Year of the Rookie" in Long Beach. Sloan Daniel arrived on opening day. Luis Rojas had a successful cup of coffee out of the pen, and Rule 5 pick Hector Gallegos has proven worthy of a roster spot.

Now it's Michael Best who gets the call. Acquired in last years surprise (and controversial) blockbuster trade with Huntsville, the 21 year old is set to be in the lineup today against California.

Given his state of development (enough, but not quite complete) it's likely that this callup was spurred by the struggles of Victor Bedolla. Bedolla, also 21, is hitting just .245/.298/.309 in 52 games. With the Surfers hanging tight to a Wild Card spot with their 30-26 record, they seem to be committed to doing whatever it takes to get back into the playoffs. At this point in the season, Best will likely become a super 2 player, and that's after Daniel made the opening day roster instead of being held back for an extra year of control.

Best is currently rated 7/8/7/5/6 by OOTP OSA, with potentials of 8/8/7/5/9. For now, he'll likely hit towards the bottom of the order, with an eventual eye on a middle of the order spot with Carlos Gonzales and Mark Simpson. He's no Yelanian with the glove, but he'll get the job done and should hit well enough to be worth at least 2 WAR per year, TED.

It doesn't help me that he bumped his power. Damn.

Make an offer! He's been on the block and I've had talks with at least one other GM.
