This is an excited team in Long Beach right now. The team was swept in New Orleans at the end of April then flipped a switch. They immediately turned around and swept Atlantic City on the road, took two of three in Marquette, and swept a first place Montreal club in Canada before heading home. They are 9-2 since that sweep by the 'Dads and feeling good about themselves. On top of that, they won all of those games without top bats Ted Sale and David Hulse, who will be off of the DL for the next sim.

The offense has been hot during the last 11 games, led by Aussie Dave Nilsson who has his average up to .346 on the season and the much-maligned veteran third-sacker Steve Rossi who drove in 14 runs during the hot streak. The whole offense has played well, and Sale and Hulse can only make it better. The club is also particularly happy with the performance of young Jesus Losada, claimed off of waivers from Montreal a couple of years ago and hitting .351 on the year.

The pitching is still just average with a 4.32 ERA over the streak. They continue to be led by 24 year old Ramon Ayala, but fellow youngster Justin Milsap and 27 year old rookie Raymond Hecht are also pitching well. The closer by committee idea continues to produce fruit with future superstar Cliff Webb leading the way with 21 Ks and only 6 walks in his 12 innings. Chris Malone, the #2 pick in the '98 draft is also well on his way to becoming one of the best relievers in the league.

The future is looking brighter here in Long Beach!
