2026.7 - The Tucson Sun - 2026 Wrap Up

September 30, 2026
Tucson, Arizona

The Tucson Cactus wrapped up the 2026 schedule yesterday in Seattle, Washington finishing on a high note with an 8-4 victory. SP Tully Crow earned the win to move to 8-7 on the season. The 26 year old Crow was one of the highlights of the team this year despite an injury that limited him to just 23 starts. He has just finished his 5th year in the MBBA, which unfortunately may signal that he is nearing the end of his time in Tucson.

Crow was not a part of the huge sell-off that occurred prior to the deadline in Tucson that saw significant talent trade move each way. It is no secret that GM Stephen Lane has thrown the club into a full-blown rebuild. Attendance has plummeted, even as Lane has consistently stated the need for people to actually attend the games if they ever want to see Tucson make a move in free agency.

At 66-96 on the year, Tucson posted their worst record since 2021, and in a way it could be their most impactful season since then. From 2022-2025 the team averaged 76.5 wins per season while finishing 4th thrice and 3rd once. This has kept them towards the middle of the pack on draft day, and a better pick for the upcoming amateur free agent draft could be another piece in the puzzle of rebuilding a franchise.

Asked to give his thoughts on the 2026 season overall, Lane was evasive. "Have you guys heard of the MBBA's Fall League? You should keep an eye on the Key West Beachbums!" When asked to discuss anything about Tucson, he sounded almost as if he were being paid to promote the league. "Man, we've got Jimmy Greenwood and Esteban Gil and Carlos Gonzalez! These guys might win more games in one month than Tucson won all year!"

It was apparent that Lane was ready to put the 2026 season behind him and look towards the future. One can only hope that the fans of Tucson are able to see the hope that exists in the minor league system and continue to support the team.

Haha. I love that interview, it's such a disaster. I kinda buried the link in there so I hope other guys noticed it too.
