Tucson, Arizona
In a press release early this morning, Tucson Cactus management announced multiple changes to the major and minor league coaching staffs:
Pitching Coach Tom Schmidt was relieved of his duties after refusing to accept an assignment to a minor league club. Schmidt had been with the organization since 2025 serving at multiple minor leauge stops, and 2027 was his first major league assignment.
Taking his place as the Tucson Pitching Coach is Chet Rouse, who was reassigned from the Manager role. The Sun speculates that his significant salary is the only reason that he remains employed with the club. There are rumors that even this position may be in name only, as it is very odd to see a manager moved to a different role instead of being released.
Promoted to Manager in Tucson is another first year manager, Hsin Wa. Known as a controlling disciplinarian who works well with youngsters, the hope here is clearly that Wa will be able to improve the atmosphere in the clubhouse that has continued to deteriorate as the season has gone on.
General Manager Stephen Lane has not yet made himself available for comment, but we suspect we will hear something shortly.

Schmidt probably got tired of being yanked around every few months for $40K a year. Wonder if he'll go back to seiling refrigerators in Denver?

Turned it into an episode of Out of the Sun that you can find here. Planning one more post as well.
