With their second round pick, the Surfers selected high school starting pitcher Ángel Tweed. The right handed Tweed has the looks of shutdown reliever with a nasty fastball and splitter combination. scouts say that with the proper control, they could the best in the league someday. The team will look to add bulk to his 6'5" 180lbs frame, hopefully increasing his stamina and ability to avoid injury.
His development is currently excellent for his age, and though scouts have noted that his work ethic has been lacking at times, the team has been known to make strides with players of similar work ethic.

With the 78th overall pick, the Surfers selected SP Rob Bodkin, a 19 year old left-handed pitcher out of Australia College. Bodkin profiles as your typical junk ball pitcher, throwing 6 pitches moderately well. He currently sits low 90s with the fastball, and the Long Beach front office anticipates putting a bit more zip on that as he spends time in the system, despite his diminutive 5'9" frame.
His development is about average for his age, and we would expect to see him begin his professional career in Rookie League. Should he reach his potentials, he projects as a consistent back-end starter for a BBA team, eating innings and keeping the team in the game.

In the fourth round, the Surfers selected another college player, OF Juan De La Torre. A lefty hitter, De La Torre does not have much power, but makes up for it with solid contact skills and an above-average eye and ability to avoid strikeouts. A rangy outfielder, look for him to spend time in center field. He'll need some improvement to play the position at the BBA level, but there's plenty of time for that to be worked on.
He'll start the season at the Rookie level, but we would not be surprised to see him move through the system quickly. He is nearly at his potential across the board, and depending on team need, could be fast-tracked to the bigs.
