SURFERS SWEPT
October 2, 2059
Long Beach, CA
The crowd in Long Beach this evening was energized and ready to root for the Surfers to extend the Geoghegan Series against the Sacramento Mad Popes.
For a few minutes, at least.
The team handed the ball to one of their most reliable starters over the course of the season, Chris Thompson. In 22 starts, he posted at solid 3.97 ERA, and less than a month ago he held Sacramento to just 1 earned run over 4.1 innings of work.
Today was different though.
Sacramento's leadoff hitter Unem Ploid started the game off with a home run to right field on a 3-1 pitch. Former Surfer Ryan Geauxinue then singled, and it was all downhill from there as Thompson was removed from the game before the end of the inning.
Knowing the importance of the moment, Manager Mike Ellis brought in the Surfers' best reliever, Scott Everard. It made no difference though, as the Mad Popes ate up everything that Long Beach had to offer, scoring 3 runs against Everard, and then scoring off of the next four relievers that Ellis called to the mound.
In the end, the crowd of 68,702 was wittled down to a few thousand Sacramento fans, as the M'Popes swarmed the field after the final out of the 18-3 drubbing.
