Trying to get the jump on "co-ace" Micheal Shellenbarger's upcoming arbitration hearing, the Hustlers brass decided it was time to float a long term deal out there. As we often do with arby eligible players, we shot low. Usually they tell us where to go. In Mike Shellenbarger's case, he bit.
Imagine if you will having a perennial Nebraska Award candidate, a guy who has posted VORP's over 70 the last two seasons, at the prime of his career (age 28), an "ironman".....locked up for the next four years at the price of $4,000,000 per year. You don't have to imagine if you're the Las Vegas Hustlers.
"I'm comfortable here, and these guys have given me a chance to establish myself as a starting pitcher," Shellenbarger explained. "I primarily wanted to control the long term destiny of my career. Las Vegas is my home, and that's saying something from a guy from Harvey, Illinois!"
