After the Hustlers dealt Lorenzo Morales, there was an opening in the Las Vegas Hustlers rotation. Most observers expected Luis Luna to take over the rotation spot, but Spring Training brought a surprise contender in.

32 year old Francisco Lueras is going to join the rotation despite starting exactly 0 games during the spring. He was, however, a workhorse. He pitched in 18 of the 24 spring games with a solid 3.56 ERA.

Lueras has been up and down between the Hustlers and AAA Milwaukee over the past three seasons. Overall, he's spent most of the past EIGHT seasons with AAA Milwaukee. "I'm glad to be given a chance to show what I can do as a starter," Lueras said.

Luna was disappointed in his spring performance. "This was my chance to shine but instead I fizzled," he said. Luna, as well as waiver claim Xavier Escriba, will offer starting depth for Las Vegas this season.
