Reporters barely gave Las Vegas Hustlers manager time to celebrate his club's unlikely playoff berth before pestering him about the Geoghegan Round against the Boise Spuds.
"Henry, who will start these games??," queried scribe Gavin Boosalis.
"Geez, you guys don't quit, do you..." Rectenberg laughed. "I'm thinking we will go with a three-man against Boise. Reese Newsome, Samuel Nebraska and then Bret Harrell. How's that sound?"
"Seymour Sprosty, Las Vegas Sun here," said the next reporter. "Do you think that Harrell is back to his old self now?"
"The numbers sure support that theory," said Rectenwald. "He's 4-0 with a 2.35 ERA in September. What changed? He cut his walks way back. Limiting guys on base. It also keeps him in the game longer. Let's hope he's back because we need him."
Another tall reporter chimed in. "Rylan Whitemarsh of the Hustlers Daily Report here. Would you have ever pegged Newsome to be your playoff #1 starter when this season started?"
Rectenberg chuckled. "It would have been a longshot, for sure. Reese has earned my trust. He's been an absolute model of consistency since he joined the rotation in May. We wouldn't be here without him."
A shorter, middle aged gentleman with a bow tie spoke next. "Woodrow Tuxbury, Brewster News Network. The league is abuzz with the performance of Nebraska since he came over to the Hustlers. What's been the difference?"
"If I knew that, I'd be rich," Rectenberg said with a smirk. "The defense behind him has been stellar and he's kept the ball in the park. Let's hope he keeps it going."
