CF Jimmy "Super" Slizz has found his way back to the desert. The highly popular local cult hero is back with the Hustlers. Needing outfield depth, Las Vegas sent young utility man 3B/1B/OF Paul "One Shoe" Gilbert to the Valencia Stars to bring him back to town.
"First, we're ecstatic to have Jimmy back in town," GM Matt Rectenwald said. "We were looking for someone to help protect us depth-wise in center field, particularly against left-handed pitching. Jimmy can do that. And he does it for under $1M per season." Slizz hasn't posted a positive VORP since 2001 with the Hustlers, hitting rock bottom at -8.5 VORP last season in a part-time role with the Stars. The Hustlers traded him to Greenville in 2002 in a deal where they acquired current bullpen arm Gabriel Goodwin.
Gilbert was a 1999 Supplemental first rounder by the Hustlers, and he's been in the system ever since. He went 3-10 in a cup of coffee with the big club last year and would have continued to shuttle back and forth until his options were up.

Nice...he's the player Joe Sixpack wanted to be but couldn't because he's too busy getting injured every other game.
