Ashton Brooks is now thirty seven years of age. He's been employed by the Las Vegas Hustlers since mid-2052, and in that time has earned 9.3 WAR serving in a variety of roles, from starting to long relief to short relief. For the majority of that time, seemingly, the Hustlers have been actively trying to trade him away. But here we are, with Brooks having safely gone off to free agency among declining ratings and the advance of age, and yet the Hustlers chose once again to employ the left-handed pitcher.

Las Vegas signed Brooks to a one year deal worth $1.3 million. "Obviously, we needed some BBA arms, and Brooks is at least familiar," said manager Henry Rectenberg. "What's the worst that can happen? He doesn't make the team and Rectenwald has to eat the $1.3 million? Big whoop."
