Most players in the BBA aren't peaking at the age of 36. Tom Rudge isn't most players. In 2051, at age 32, Rudge posted a career high 7.7 WAR. He finished second in the Silk Award voting that season, the only season to date that he had been in the top three of Silk Award voting. This year, at age 36, Rudge just missed his career WAR peak in posting 7.6 WAR (first in Johnson League). He also led the JL in RC/27 (9.16) and Hits (209), while finishing third in AVG (.333), fourth in OBP (.385), third in SLG (.610), third in OPS (.995), and second in Total Bases (383). The voters awarded Rudge with the highest of honors for a BBA Position Player, the Sawyer Silk Award. Rudge called it a challenging but rewarding season. "We finished last at the end of the day, and this is a team sport," said Rudge. "Of course I'm proud of what I was able to do, especially given the extra demands in the field this year." Rudge was referring to the fact that he was asked to play center field more often than any season since 2045, when he was just 26 years old. "I play where Skip tells me to play," chuckled Rudge. "If he wants to play this old-timer in center field, I'll play in center field."

LF Kidane Ata honored: Wins the 2055 BBA JL Yogi Zimmer Diamond Glove Award at LF.
Rudge was playing so much center field in part because Kidane Ata had been moved off of the position this year. Ata had been one of the great center fielders of the last fifteen years, winning two Zimmer Awards at that position. This year he was asked to move to left field, a move designed to extend his career. Despite having only appeared in nine career games in left field, Ata took home the Zimmer Award this year.
