Las Vegas Captures Johnson League Frontier Division Crown
Wednesday, September 15th , 2049

The Las Vegas Hustlers said they expected to win the Johnson League Frontier Division from day one.

It is now closer to the end than it is to day one, but that brash attitude has paid off, as the team has in fact clinched the division.

"We believe in each other and we think we're by far the best team in the division. We proved that this year," said reliever Mike Jayne. "We're sitting at 100-49 right now, well ahead of the rest of the division, it feels good. This is a statement for us."

Whether the confidence carries over into the team's 10th Monty Brewster Memorial Series remains to be seen, but this is the 26th time they have won the division.

Outfielders Tom Rudge and Jim Ashford have been going back and forth as the club's WAR leader all season long. For what it's worth, Rudge endorses Ashford as a serious Silk Award contender. "Jimmy has been incredible", gushed Rudge. "He's gotta have close to 90 extra base hits by now."

The rotation has once again been led by Martin Ross, who once again is leading the team in wins and is among the league leaders in that category. "I pride myself on my consistency," said Ross. "Wins are a team stat, and I'm very proud to have done my job to give our amazing offense a chance most days."

As of 9/22, the Hustlers are first in the Johnson League in Runs Scored, and first in Runs Allowed. That's a pretty rare feat, if it holds up. That much is in question as manager Edward Allen says he will use the last week of the season to allow their starting pitchers a bit of rest. "We gave Brian King last week off, and we're going to give Ross this week off," explained Allen. "So we'll take a second look at the young righty, Jose Bray, as well as giving Nathaniel Davis a spot start or two." Bray, ranked the Hustlers #2 prospect this season (right behind rookie stalwart John Rasmussen III), was bombed in his one BBA start earlier this year but was a key part of the Milwaukee Choppers (AAA) championship rotation. "Just glad to be here," said the quiet Bray.
