WHIV 2048.2- Who's Leaving Town?

2B Ron Ritchie was not offered arbitration, becomes a free agent.
C Reggie Leeper becomes a free-agent.

Ritchie was a late season pickup who couldn't quite gain footing with the Hustlers. Leeper, an emerging player a couple years ago, had faded in recent seasons.

SS Tony Flores becomes a free-agent.
SS Juan Luis Manuel becomes a free-agent.
3B Juan Mendoza becomes a free-agent.

Neither Flores nor Manuel worked out as utility options, which leaves just Mendoza as the loss here. "He was a big part of the club, but his demands and what we were willing to do just didn't match up," said GM Matt Rectenwald.

As good as the Hustlers were in 2047, there's a good chance they may be better in 2048. With the last payments for Shawn Huber having been made to Twin Cities and Drees Geestman now off the books, Vegas is in a good place this offseason.

The Hustlers have lost just one true contributor to free agency (Mendoza) and now have just about $30 million under the cap to play with.

What do the Hustlers need? The short answer is not much. The longer answer is that they need shortstop depth, maybe first base/DH, a bat against righties and outfield depth. Pitching is in no way a need right now.

Expect GM Rectenwald to do what he usually does in recent years: wait out the overbidding and grab bargains towards the end of the free agency cycle.
