Who should win the Johnson League Rookie of the Year this season? Sure, there are pitchers like Bill Constable that have put up gaudy WAR numbers, but isn't it a pitchers paradise league wide? Take a peek at the rookie batters in the JL. What do you see?

You see the Hustlers Carlos Fernandez leading damn near every single offensive category. It's truly stunning. In fact, there are just two categories he does not lead the league in. Sac Hits and Sac Flies. That's it.

Dig in a little further. You'll see that Fernandez isn't your average every day lefty hitter. He plays every day, and actually has posted a HIGHER OPS against left-handed pitching.

Still not convinced? He's kind of versatile. He's played second base, first base, left field and DH this year. And as a leadoff hitter, he has a higher OPS than his overall. After a slow start to the year in the steals category (he was caught a ton early on), he now has 31 steals.

If there is a flaw in Fernandez' game, it would only be inside of his head. "We want Carlos to work on his work habits this offseason," said GM Matt Rectenwald. "He's another cornerstone that we've found this year, and that's what this season has been all about."
