WHIV 2045.3- Checking the Locks: Catcher

Sure Fire Locks (1):
Reggie "Big Reg" Leeper (LH)
His production last year was unexpected, to say the least. Clearly a lot of it was BABIP produced (.370), but the power and defense are his game. Can he hold onto the job? The Hustlers were rumored to be sniffing around a couple of free agent catchers during the offseason but ultimately decided to lean on their young duo.

Near Locks (1):
Geoff Combs (RH)
Had he not missed a majority of the 2044 season, Combs would have arrived sooner. During his 16 game September stint he underwhelmed at the plate but overwhelmed behind it, throwing out 56% of baserunners. He'll get every opportunity to play the short side of the platoon and, if Leeper regressed, will be in line to take over the full time role.

Trying To Break In (1):

Noguchi profiles as a decent right-handed batting catcher. It's a shame that with Combs he's redundant. He's also out of options, which means he'll either make the team as a third catcher or he'll be traded. There are many teams in the BBA that could do worse than Noguchi as their catcher.

Breaking In The Back Door (1):
Etienne Kop (LH)
Kop is almost the ideal utility man. He can play nearly every position on the diamond, only center field and pitcher are not in his bag of tricks. If only he could hit. If only....
