Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better.
It was the latter case in 2044, as the Burlington Big Eyed Fish topped the Reno Aces 7-6 tonight at Bass Pro Shop Field to win the The Final Judgement. It was the 3rd title in franchise history.
"When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said Burlington center fielder Juan Martínez, who was named series MVP.
The Big Eyed Fish took the series 3-0. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the Donaldo League Colonial and a 79-61 record.
Burlington manager Jimmy Días grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Martínez's words.
"Juan said it best -- we played better than the other team," he said.
Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come.
In Short Season A ball, the Kingston Legends couldn't quite win it all. They fell to the Antigua Tikis in four games.

Go Tikis!
Portland minor leagues, where age doesn't dictate your level!
Let the celebration begin!
Now, I need to figure out how to build my farm like Vegas' so it's not just one team winning titles but all of them playing for them.

All it takes is lots of time and micro managing. I did all this with one of the worst farm systems in the league when I took over.
