Hank Brewer is more than a legendary player. By all accounts, he is an inspirational leader and master of fundamentals. Teammates could not say enough nice things about him nor could his front offices. Brewer was, simply, a winner. Soon, Brewer will also be a Hall of Famer.

So why in the world would he want to pack his bags and spend next year in Roswell, New Mexico?

"I love baseball too much to not be around it," said Brewer. "Heck, if my body would have cooperated I'd have kept playing. I always said I wanted to end my career on my terms and it was time."

Immediately after Brewer announced his retirement he got a call from the Hustlers. It was quickly announced that they would be retiring his number and then talks quickly progressed into what his future with the Las Vegas organization could look like. "We think Hank can do whatever he wants to as his coaching career unfolds," said GM Matt Rectenwald. "He didn't want any special treatment. In fact, it was Hank who insisted that he start in Rookie ball and work his way up the ladder."

Brewer and the Hustlers agreed that he would be named the new hitting coach for the Rookie League Roswell Aliens (ironically replacing former teammate Jack Gulliver). Hank Brewer was back with the Hustlers again. "Feels good to be home," Brewer said with a smile.
