Las Vegas confirmed the signing of free agent second baseman Henry Curtis to a minor league deal with a $640,000 signing bonus. This should not be a big story. He has gotten cups of coffee with Twin Cities in three seasons, and wasn't able to stick with the River Monsters. At 25 years old, Curtis has reached the crucial stage in his career where you either make it in the Brewster or become a guy who is deciding between a career in the minors or the UMEBA. He's the kind of player that could find himself the first guy on a roster to be in danger of being sent down at any time. He's also now the #8 prospect in the Las Vegas Hustlers organization.
That's right, a 25 year old borderline BBA player is the #8 prospect in the Hustlers system. To further accentuate just how pathetic the Hustlers system is, he's now the THIRD BEST POSITION PLAYER PROSPECT behind Stewart Turton (who will graduate off) and Carlos Fernandez.
Ironically, his future could be linked with Fernandez's. A righty bat, Curtis is much better against lefties so there's a scenario in which he might platoon with Fernandez.
Let's think about that for a second. That's right, a 25 year old short half of a platoon guy is Las Vegas' third best position player prospect. To be fair, he does play five positions (sort of) and he enjoys country music. So, he's got that going for him...which is nice (I guess????).
