WHIV 2038.18- Around The Organization

Around the Organization
July 29, 2038

All-Star season has come and gone, and the Hustlers minor leagues produced a total of eight All-Stars! Congrats!

Milwaukee Choppers (AAA)
Thursday, June 10th, 2038
2B Raul Alilea was selected to the Rupert Horn Memorial League All-Star Game.
3B Julian Fernandez was selected to the Rupert Horn Memorial League All-Star Game.

Reno Aces (AA)
Wednesday, June 9th, 2038
3B Felipe Ferreira was selected to the Warren Cox League All-Star Game.

Pahrump Ranchers (A)
Wednesday, June 9th, 2038
SP Tommy Bush was selected to the Charley Pegler League All-Star Game.
SP Alfredo Cuellar was selected to the Charley Pegler League All-Star Game.
SP Jose Garcia was selected to the Charley Pegler League All-Star Game.

Kingston Legends (SA)
Wednesday, July 28th, 2038
SP Manuel Mota was selected to the Sunshine League All-Star Game.

Roswell Aliens (R)
Friday, July 23rd, 2038
SP Fekadu Bbosa was selected to the Spike Nolan League All-Star Game.

STRIKE ONE: Alvin Chartrand has been pitching quite well in the Choppers rotation. The organization is still holding out hope that he can be an effective big league starter despite two failed stints since last year.

STRIKE TWO: Minor league FA signee Jeff Whitney , a right handed pitcher, has been opening eyes over his first 11 appearances (1.78 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, 2 SV).

STRIKE THREE: Las Vegas is expecting a big second half from outfielder Chad Garrett , who would probably be in the big leagues right now if his production has been higher.

Image
STRIKE ONE: Looking for further development in the second half from a bevy of talented arms on the Aces staff. Marvin Atkinson , Wayne Mawle , Angel Lorenzo , Senzo Kobayashi and Ricardo Moreno all need to close the 2038 season strongly.

STRIKE TWO: Tom Rudge was assigned to Reno immediately following his signing post-draft. While that's an aggressive placement for any new professional, Rudge has not only competed but utterly dominated. He has a 2.5 WAR in just 35 games. The plan is to give him reps in the outfield corners and see if he continues to force the issue...if so a promotion to the big club before the end of the year isn't out of the question.

STRIKE THREE: Super-utility prospect Mike England has turned the corner over the past two months. Along with double play partner Phil Logan the Hustlers have a talented infield duo that should be able to help the big club by next season at the latest.

Image
STRIKE ONE: Nelion Mkubwa is back with the Ranchers after flopping in Reno (.188/.286/.372). This tactic has worked with numerous Hustlers prospects in the past, most recently the aforementioned England.

STRIKE TWO: Though a starter by trade, Richard Shaw has been flat out dominant as the Ranchers closer this year.

STRIKE THREE: Once a top prospect, the luster has worn off Alfredo Cuellar but it doesn't bother him. He just keeps putting up great numbers. Could he still be a diamond in the rough?

Image
STRIKE ONE: The Hustlers had high hopes for Randy Bader (their 5th rounder from high school this year) and he's been solid right out of the gate, quickly earning a promotion to Kingston where he's been holding his own.

STRIKE TWO: Long Beach may think they are the "smoke and mirrors" champion, but they don't have anything on this no-name pitching staff. There's no one decent here, but great numbers all around.

STRIKE THREE: Last years #1 pick, LHP Tetsuzan Yamanaka is starting to look like a total bust.

Image
STRIKE ONE: Supplemental #1 pick Gerald Abbott and 4th round pick Fekadu Bbosa are both pitching outstanding atop the rotation.

STRIKE TWO: The first professional season of RHP Emanuele Mercati out of Italy has been very promising. He's got a long way to go but fans and teammates alike are getting a kick out of his quick wit.

STRIKE THREE: 14th round pick Sixto Cisneros has an awesome nickname: "Ball O'Fat".

Ball O’ Fat - that’s world class right there. Wonder what his walk-up music is?

I wondered where Jeff Whitney ended up, glad to see him doing well, although I think long term his destiny is a AAAA guy

I'm Fat by Weird Al. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks about walkup music.

A walkup music thread is a tremendous idea ... I may need to steal that.

Walk up music... IN 2038!?

By then they'll just teleport you from the dugout into the batters box in an effort to speed up play.
