WHIV 2038.10- Checking The Locks: Outfielders

Checking The Locks: Outfielders (6-7)
Preseason 2038

Sure Fire Locks:
Henry Rectenberg
Eliseu Satino
Carlos Camacho

Rectenberg has assumed the mantle as the face of the Hustlers. He's slated to play primarily in left field this year after splitting time between left field, right field and designated hitter in 2038. Satino's strong half season has him locked into the primary DH role. It's odd to list a reserve player as a sure fire lock but with the money spent on Camacho and his role as primary center fielder against lefties, he's a lock.

Near Locks:
Aymeric Barajas
Antonio Cortez
Declan Crauen
Sadaharu Oh III

Here's where things get interesting. The Hustlers already had one two many outfielders to start the offseason with Barajas projected as a reserve outfielder, and now the addition of Crauen gives them two legitimate starters on the bench. There's two ways to look at it- either they're well protected against injuries, or they have trade ammunition to address other needs. With the departure of Sweetworld the center field position opened up and Cortez looks like he may finally get his long awaited shot. Oh III went into total beast mode in September last season and his power potential gives him the right field job to open the year. He'll have to keep producing to hold off Crauen.

Trying To Get In The Door:
Hector Gomez
Jon Turner

For the last three years Gomez has been a valuable bat against lefties, in fact serving as the Hustlers' cleanup hitter against LHP the majority of his time. In the second half of 2037 the bottom dropped out, and now he's going to have to earn his way onto a crowded roster. Turner was signed as a defensive option in center field and added to the 40-man, but his spot there is tenuous at best.

Breaking In The Back Door (NRI):
Chad Garrett
Andres Marino
Francisco Mendez
Eugene Hodges

On most teams a guy like Garrett would have a decent chance of making a roster. Not here. Marino gets a look as a depth guy. Hodges is in the same camp as Garrett, but without the same defensive skills is the longest of longshots. The guy to watch here is Mendez, who the Hustlers are giving a real look as a challenger to Cortez for center field duties.
