WHIV 2038.7- Checking The Locks: Relief Pitchers

Checking The Locks: Relief Pitchers (7-8)
Preseason 2038

Sure Fire Locks:
Augate Balun
Javier Garcia
Shawn Huber

Las Vegas continues to follow their "Rule of Three" by having three dominant relievers out of the bullpen. While Huber is the veteran star of the bunch, Balun made his first All-Star team last year in dominant fashion and Garcia is no slouch himself.

Near Locks:
Tony Medine
Wayne Muirhead
Alphonse Salvarani

Medine has all the talent in the world and started to translate it into results last season. Muirhead is as talented as anyone- but he hasn't been able to put it together yet. Salvarani has been an effective LOOGY for the last two years and will fill that role again this year.

Trying To Get In The Door:
Poto Tornatore
Ryosei Akahori
Powell Canning
Wayne Jackson
Wayne Mawle

Here's where things get interesting. If six spots are already taken, that leaves 1-2 openings. It's likely both will be filled by the "losers" of the starting rotation battle. That leaves these five likely ticketed for the minors. The Hustlers want to give Akahori another shot at starting for Triple-A Milwaukee, and will do the same with Tornatore who is in his last option year. Canning and Jackson both enter their pivotal last option year as well, so their performance this year will ultimately make or break their long term fortunes with the organization. Mawle, on the other hand, has three option years left and will likely go to Reno (AA) to continue his development.

Breaking In The Back Door (NRI):
Angel Lorenzo
Jose Garza
Senzo Kobayashi

Lorenzo and Kobayashi are two outstanding young prospects who are getting their first taste of spring camp. Garza is an organizational soldier who is a "break in case of emergency" arm for the Hustlers.

Really like Akahori. You have so many good bullpen options though.
