WHIV 2036.14- Halfway Point Check-In

Halfway Point Check-In
July 8, 2036

The Hustlers enter the 2036 All-Star Break at 51-39, good enough for a 2.5 game lead over the surging Phoenix Talons in the JL Sun Belt Division. Can this hold up?

Three Reasons to Believe

1. Hao Kun is turning into an ACE.
The 23 year old Kun now has two Pitcher of the Month Awards in his short career, and a no-hitter. He seems poised to have a shot at an All-Star berth. At 10-5, 3.52 ERA and 105 K's in 128 innings, he is blossoming into a top of the rotation pitcher and just getting better.<br/>

2. Hank Brewer is BACK!
The Hustlers' 31 year old veteran backstop is back from injury, and looking to pick up where he le3ft off. Despite only playing in 44 games before getting hurt, he already had a 2.6 WAR and is playing some of the best baseball of his career.

3. The Law of Averages says the Bullpen will be better!
Besides Shawn Huber the Hustlers' bullpen has been an unexpected weak link at times, despite being 4th in the JL in Bullpen ERA. The Hustlers expect much more from the trio of Augute Balun , Tony Medine and Wayne Muirhead in the second half. Meanwhile they expect more of the same from Alphonse Salvarini and Germao Real in the LOOGY roles, and hope to see improvement from rookies Javier Garcia and Joey Flannery .

Three Reasons to Doubt

1. Overachievers
Is this the real Henry Rectenberg ? Can Jayden Harsnett keep up the pace? Is the re-emergence of Juan Sweetworld real? Can Miguel Rodriguez really be the answer the Hustlers have been looking for at shortstop?

2. Thin Starting Pitching
Take away Kun and you have a lot of question marks. Hyun-sik Chang is supposed to be the Hustlers true ace, but he's been wildly inconsistent. Manuel Orozco is still a rookie. Jesus Lopez is the picture of inconsistency. Chin Kim is just coming back from injury, and veteran Floyd Carter has been barely acceptable as a fill in. The cupboard is largely bare after that.

3. Infield Defense
While Gervasio Ridder and Miguel Rodriguez have been solid at first base and shortstop, second base and third base are still huge question marks. Quant Kouros and Antonio Baca in particular have been far below average and this needs to improve in the second half for the Hustlers to have success.

Lol, don't worry about the "surging" Talons. One (1) viable SP in the rotation doesn't go very far in this league...
