Fajardo Faces Two, Goes Down For Count
April 15, 2036

Skeptics are having a field day after Gerardo Fajardo) went down in his first Hustlers start after facing just two batters. He had compained of a tired arm in Spring Training, but pitched through it and looked healthy to start the season, however he could only manage to face two hitters before begging out of the game. Doctors confirmed the next day that Fajardo had suffered a partially torn UCL, and he would be out for the season. Recovery is expected to be eleven months.

So the Hustlers' big free agent pitching addition is already on the bench, what now? Having already lost Chin Kim) with a torn meniscus in his knee during Spring Training, the Hustlers were already thinned out but their depth might be the saving grace of the 2036 season. Hirotada Miura (1 - 0, 5.79 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 13 K) rejoined the rotation after Fajardo went down, and they have added veteran knuckleballer Floyd Carter (1 - 0, 3.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 5 K) as they went from a four man to a five man rotation. Each are battle tested and will give the Hustlers strong innings moving forward.

The Hustlers were also able to activate last years rookie sensation Maximo Trevino) from the disabled list. He'll fill some high leverage spots that Carter and Miura were scheduled for.

In other moves, Vegas optioned outfielder Antonio Cortez (.048/.130/.048, 0 HR, 0 RBI) to Triple-A Milwaukee and recalled outfielder Brian Bender). With Cortez off to a slow start, new manager Edward Allen made a quick decision and asked for the more established Bender to be called up. The Hustlers also activated third baseman Kazuo Yamamoto (.250/.400/.688, 2 HR, 4 RBI) from the disabled list after a minor injury shelved him, sending utility man Michel Lambert) back to the minor leagues.
