WHIV 2036.3- Comings, Goings and Signings

Comings, Goings and Signings
December 1, 2035

It's that time of year when a lot of players on the edges of rosters come and go, and the Hustlers have had their share do just that.

Prior to arbitration, the Hustlers locked up three of their eligible players and declined one of them. It was a no-brainer to extend their ace, Hyun-sik Chang (9/7/8 Ratings, 33 - 24, 4.00 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 490 K) to a one year, $6.26M extension and their closer, Shawn Huber (10/7/7 Ratings, 24 - 11, 2.47 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 357 K) to a one year, $5.14 deal. Swingman Hirotada Miura (8/7/8 Ratings, 28 - 17, 3.96 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 306 K) is also going to be back, accepting a bargain $800K prove it deal after a disappointing 2035 campaign.

Vegas did decline arbitration on pitcher Hector Freitas and he became a free agent. Good luck out there.

They also made decisions on a couple of players who could have left via the minor league free agent route, deciding to retain 2B Felix Avila (5/4/5/8/7 Ratings, .246/.340/.366, 45 HR, 195 RBI) and RP Corey Jackson (9/6/5 Ratings, 31 - 33, 5.05 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 405 K) for now. Both could figure into the big league roster in 2036 or just as easy be waived if space is needed.

In advance of the December Rule 5 Draft, the Hustlers added 21 year old righty Javier Garcia (9/6/5 Ratings) to the 40 man roster after his outstanding season at Class A Pahrump. The hard thrower could figure his way into the Hustlers bullpen plans at some point in 2036.

As free agency started and teams focused on the bigger targets, Vegas looked towards depth and have already made one minor league signing. 2B Jeaic Dalyell (7/7/1/3/9 Ratings, .295/.324/.382, 6 HR, 216 RBI) has long been a favorite of Hustlers GM Matt Rectenwald and the Hustlers are excited to have signed him to a minor league deal with a 30 day out option. It's easy to see a route to the big league roster for Dalyell.

Stay tuned as the Hustlers plan to be more active on the Free Agent market than in past years.

thanks for this article.

a good reminder to get a jump on Rule 5 protections, and an idea for a future feature!

If cojack hits the waiver wire, I'll be putting a claim in. He is my future AAA batting coach.

Yeah, he had a few good years for me. Could start or be an innings soaker in the pen. Did really well as a closer for a year and a half too. Not sure if last year was just a down year or the start of an early fizzle of a marginal pitcher in his late 20s. I just had a wave a solid young pitchers push him out. Really enjoyed his tenure in Brooklyn for many reasons.

The highlight of his run here was going 4-4 in a AAA game against Boise of all teams. I had a great team news planned out for that but fell short on time. Maybe I'll revisit it anyway as retrospective piece on his demise.
