WHIV 2060.6- Checking The Locks: Outfielders

Post by recte44 » Wed Jul 31, 2024 6:06 pm

Sure Fire Locks (2):
Mike Cox, CF (R/R)- Cox is solid in center field, a good glove and decent enough bat.

Tankut Saltik, RF/LF/1B (R/R)- He's out of options now, but still that power hasn't come. So what do the Hustlers do? Play him every day and hope it develops? Let him sit on the bench? Trade him? Stay tuned.

Near Locks (2):
Damodaragoun Neela, CO/IF (R/R)- Veteran signed in the offseason is a really nice utility guy who got the first look in left field. Has not won the job yet.

Roberto Delgado, RF/LF (L/L)- Very likely will play right field against RHP.

Trying To Break In (6):
Kamatari Kino, OF (R/R)- Kino is now getting an extended run in spring to see if he'll hit enough to play every day.

Bharti Senagala, LF/RF/3B (R/R)- Had to be added to the 40-man in the offseason, but he's already been send back to minor league camp. Not nearly ready. Seems to be a theme with international prospects.

Phil Tatham, LF/1B (R/R)- Ladies and gentlemen, it's your first of two outfield hopefuls hailing from the great and powerful island nation of Guam. @LambeauLeap @jiminyhopkins. Tatham looks to be a decent hitter, and a marginal defender.

Roberto Hampton, OF/2B (S/R)- Defense, defense, and more defense. All the speed in the world. The one thing that keeps him from greatness? You can't steal first base.

Mario Romero, OF/IF (R/R)- Another utility guy with plenty of positives to his game, and several drawbacks. Say what you want about him, but he hit 11 homers in part-time play last year and can play six positions without making a fool of himself. A guy like this seems like he should be fast though, am I right?

Rodrigo Cabrera, RF/LF (L/L)- The Hustlers shocked many when they added him to the playoff roster for the second round of the playoffs and handed him the right field spot. In the Doubleday Series! After a baller move like that, it'd be reasonable to assume he'd be right in the mix for a big role with the big club this year, but it appears he's more likely ticketed back to the minors, at least to start the season.

Breaking In The Back Door (2):
Mu'ayyad bin Nu'man, LF (L/L)- Surprisingly, he agreed to a split contract with a thirty day out clause. This guy has been an everyday player for Louisville for the past decade, amassing 19.9 WAR over that time. Lefty with some pop, not blazing fast but an excellent base stealer. Defense isn't as strong as you'd like to see, and he offers zero positional versatility, which will make it hard for him to make the Hustlers' roster.

Don McKinney, CO (R/R)- Back again for another shot with Las Vegas, Big Don from the Isle of Guam is a perfect short side platoon corner outfielder, good speed, good defense, some pop, and excellent intangibles. It's a numbers game, though, and he's on a minor league deal. Back to Milwaukee it seems.
