July 1, 2056- News and Notes

- Creegan Corney seems to have finally gotten on track. He was expected to step in and provide quality at-bats against lefties, primarily at second base. Unfortunately, he didnt hit at all and his fielding metrics weren't great either. He ended up being waived/DFA'd and no one in the league claimed him. So, the Hustlers gave him another shot and he ended up coming alive in June with a slash line of .266/.356/.516/.872 featuring a great BB/K mix of 9 walks to just 7 strikeouts. As Kidane Ata continues to age, watch for Corney to get more at-bats in left field down the stretch.

- Remember Barry Kelly? Vegas picked him up at the Trade Deadline last year, and almost immediately he tore his PCL. Kelly was on the rehab path for the last ten months, culminating in a rehab assignment to Milwaukee (AAA). It did not go well. In 71 at-bats there he had 11 hits, 3 homers, 13 RBI and 30 strikeouts. Yes, thirty. All in all it was a horrible slash line of .155/.205/.296/.501. Only the Hustlers' thin outfield depth resulted in Kelly getting the call to the active roster, and immediately he was slotted in as the center fielder against RHP (with Jose Leyva waived/DFA). Baseball is a funny game. In his first five games with the Hustlers, he was 5-12. Of the five hits, four were homers and one was a triple. Wow.

- Mitchell Pursell's first six games as the new Hustlers' closer? 5 saves. All five of those were scoreless outings, only one of the five did he allow a hit. Just one bad performance (at RMO). Ah, consistency.
