WHIV 2053.2- de'Medici signs 2-year Extension

Post by recte44 » Fri Jan 20, 2023 1:00 pm

On September 1, 2053, Lorenzo de'Medici signed a 2-year contract extension with the Las Vegas Hustlers organization, worth a total of $11,000,000. This extension will keep him with the team through the 2055 season. Edward Allen, the manager of the Las Vegas Hustlers, had a lot to say about the Hustlers' star reliever. "Lorenzo de'Medici has been an integral part of our team for many years and we are thrilled to have him back for another two seasons. His talent and experience on the mound make him one of the best pitchers in the league, and his leadership and sportsmanship make him a valuable asset to our team both on and off the field. We are excited to continue our journey to the championship with him in our roster." This season, de'Medici has appeared in 66 games and started in 0 of them. His record is 3-6, with 30 saves. His earned run average (ERA) is 2.26, and he has pitched 83.2 innings. He has given up 60 hits, including 5 home runs, and 24 walks, while striking out 78 batters. His WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched) is 1.00 and his Wins Above Replacement (WAR) is 2.4.

de'Medici has been in the league for 12 seasons, starting from 2037. He has a career record of 72 wins, 71 losses, and 183 saves. His career earned run average (ERA) is 2.99 and has pitched 1240.1 innings. He has given up 807 hits, including 131 home runs, and 470 walks, while striking out 2,131 batters. His career WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched) is 1.16 and his career Wins Above Replacement (WAR) is 30.9. He has also made appearances in 5 All-Star games and won one league championship with the Portland team in 2046.

Lorenzo de'Medici's impact on the Las Vegas Hustlers extends beyond his outstanding relief pitching work. His presence and leadership have been instrumental in the development of the team's young pitchers, many of whom have cited him as a major influence and mentor.
Javier De Jesús, a 26-year-old left-hander, had this to say about de'Medici: "Lorenzo has been a huge help to me since I joined the team. He's always willing to share his knowledge and experience and I've learned so much from him. He's an incredible leader and a true professional on and off the field." Ron Noftall, a 27-year-old right-hander, added: "Lorenzo is a true legend on this team and his work ethic is second to none. He's always pushing us to be better and his example is something that I strive to emulate. He's a great mentor and I feel very fortunate to have him on our team." Pitching coach Skip Glendenning also commented on de'Medici's impact on the team's young pitchers: "Lorenzo is an invaluable asset to this team and his leadership and experience have been a huge help to our young pitchers. They look up to him and learn a lot from him. He's a true professional and a great teammate, and we're lucky to have him."

The veteran reliever was clearly thrilled to announce the extension. "I'm so happy to return to the team, I've been part of the Hustlers family for a long time and I'm excited to continue to be a part of it. I love the atmosphere at Palace Station Ballpark & Casino, the fans are amazing and it's a great place to play," said de'Medici. "I hope to win a Monty Brewster Memorial Series ring with Las Vegas, it's been a long time coming, and I believe this team has the talent and drive to make it happen."

Can't believe he's still so good. I was worried he was gonna start declining when I traded him in 2046. Got a good return on that one to help make up for the lackluster return I got in return for Ata. Future HOF.

Looks like a good extension for both parties. Selfishly, I hope to see more of these contracts being given out to 30-somethings start falling flat. Doesn't seem like enough of them are turning sour for the best teams in the league.

All Time leader in Holds at 270 and needs 20 Ks to get into the Top 50 All Time for all pitchers.

#4 WAR for RP (#2 Active).

#3 WPA for RP (#2 Active)

#5 in Games for RP (#2 Active)

#2 in Ks by a RP (#1 Active)

Money well spent.

I think it's pretty realistic aging. In fact, wouldn't mind seeing more players play well past 35. Though, Tony Frost got your memo when he turned 30.

For sure, it just feels like there is such a glut of top players in their 30s and as a result they are more concentrated in the best teams since by their 30s those players are free agents and therefore most likely to play on teams in the best financial shape.
