WHIV 2051.5- Checking The Locks: Infield

Sure Fire Locks (2):
Abu Wamukota (1B)
Stewart Turton (SS)

With Damek Korbel dealt off to Louisville, Turton is expected to return to his natural position of shortstop this year. This creates a huge hole at second base, and something tells me the Hustlers will address this at some point this year. Meanwhile, Wamukota has come into his own at the plate as the Hustlers' first baseman. There remains a scenario in which the Hustlers could potentially play Wamukota at his natural third base spot, however Vegas is trying to find an alternate setup at the hot corner first.

Near Locks (1):
Ken Brackett (2B)

Brackett, acquired from Vancouver early in Spring this year, is setup to take over for Turton at second base. The question remains of whether or not he can hit enough to stick or if he'll end up being a part-timer.

Trying To Break In (5):
Yi-ke Hsiao (2B)
Juan Carlos Espada (2B)
Mitchell Cashmore (3B/1B)
Don Hattie (3B)
Russ Sandhoff (3B/IF)

Hsiao returns for a second tour of duty, and hopes to secure a large amount of playing time at second base. He'll have to beat out Brackett to do so. Hattie and Sandhoff are the likely platoon at third base, though there is a small chance of Wamukota moving there as previously mentioned. Cashmore was given a look in Spring and will ultimately report back to MIlwaukee as a depth piece.

Breaking In The Back Door (6):
Isaac Emmott (SS)
Kevin Corbett (2B/SS/CF)
Rubem Bordonhos (3B)
Bryan Gill (1B)
Stephan Geloran, Jr. (2B)
Michael Best (3B)

At press time, all of these players have been returned to minor league camp with the exception of Emmott. Thin at shortstop behind Turton, he has a real shot to break camp with the big club as a utility man. Corbett is a former first rounder who needs more time in the minors, and the others are veterans who will serve as AAA depth.
