WHIV 2050.5- Injuries Devastate Hustlers

Post by recte44 » Mon May 02, 2022 8:39 pm

Jim Ashford was already out for the season. The Hustlers best hitter, one of the best in the BBA, on the shelf.

Next, Stewart Turton turned up in the injury report.
09/18/2050 Injured (strained back),out for 2-3 weeks.
"Not ideal, but I'll be back in time for the playoffs if all goes to plan," said Turton. The Hustlers will get by just fine in the meantime with Luis Dominguez figuring to get the most of the playing time.

Then, the possible death knell happened, in the same game:
Tuesday, September 20th , 2050
SP Jay Hodge was injured while pitching. The Diagnosis: elbow inflammation. He's expected to miss about 8 weeks.
SP Ryan Bowers was injured while pitching. The Diagnosis: elbow tendinitis. He's expected to miss about 8 weeks.

Hodge, the Hustlers #1 starter, is impossible to replace. His production speaks for itself:
G GS Rec SV ERA IP HA HR BB K WHIP WAR
31 31 17-3 0 2.86 189.0 174 23 11 177 0.98 4.8

In what can only be considered digging the knife in a little deeper, Bowers relieved Hodge ad then he too was lost for 8 weeks.

Where do the Hustlers go from here with their starting staff? Manager Edward Allen met with reporters and revealed the plan:

EA: There's nothing left to prove with the eight games left. We just need to set up as best we can for the playoffs, without Jay. That being said, you won't see Eugenio (Asseldonk), Martin (Ross), John (Rasmussen III) and Nathaniel (Davis) won't pitch. Consider them on the shelf- rest up for the playoffs, fellas. I've got the starters lined up right here on this paper, fellas:

Wayne Dorsey
Juan Ruiz
Garth Gunn
Jose Bray
Javier DeJesus
Dorsey
Ruiz
Gunn

Leaving the window open for other teams, I see. Is this a game to you? Playing with your prey?

It is difficult to express the pain I feel at this news. Our hearts bleed for you. Perhaps this unfortunate turn of events may allow someone else to win the title for a change.
