WHIV 2049.9- Hustlers land last big FA in Collins III

The long national wait is over. Steven "Scooter" Collins III has finally chosen a team, and it is the defending champion Las Vegas Hustlers.

Las Vegas was able to finally get Collins III to sign a creative contract which takes advantage of this year's cap space but also gives the Hustlers an affordable team option for 2049. Collins will get $13.39M this year (plus available bonuses) and the team holds an $8.39M option for next year (with a $2.5M buyout).

"Both sides win," said Hustlers GM Matt Rectenwald. "We get another bat and one which should flourish in this park, and Steven gets a nice payday for this year and next."

The Hustlers fan base was both excited and confused. "Great player, but where does he play?," asked a fan. This was a common question being asked all over Vegas sports talk radio.

Rectenwald addressed that question directly. "Too many good players is a problem, hey? That's hilarious. Listen, we've already had our share of injuries and they are bound to happen throughout the season. We'll find a place for everyone to play. These things work themselves out."

The immediate plan, it seems, is to have Collins III playing first base. He has just 14 games of experience at first base in his entire career, the last appearance being in Edmonton in 2037. "He'll be just fine there," manager Edward Allen said. "If not, we have plenty of other ways to get him into the lineup." The most obvious "Plan B" would be to move him to designated hitter full time if Francisco Medina doesn't get going at the plate. "We owe Francisco a fair shot," Rectenwald said. "We really need his power in the lineup."

He'd have done better financially by not opting out, so I hope he learned his lesson!

Wait'll he plays his first game in Edmonton in a Vegas uniform. The fans will be ready. Just wait.
