Hasegawa Headed to FA?

Calgary's #1 starting pitcher Shinsui Hasegawa may be headed to free agency after the team has failed to agree on an extension. The 33 has been with Calgary for 10 seasons and been the team's top pitcher for 8 of those years. The teams has been negotiating with him throughout the season and has made one final offer.

"We have been unsuccessful this year on working out a deal," GM Kevin Dickson said. "His agent has been asking for a 6 year deal which doesn't make sense for us to sign him to at 33 years old."

Hasegawa's representatives had no comment.

Rumors are that the team offered a 5 year deal with some options to protect the team. Either way this could turn out badly for the team. If he signs the team ties up $10 mil plus for the next 3-5 seasons on an aging pitcher. If he goes on the market the team will get a comp pick, but won't be able to replace him in free agency.

Hasegawa's career record is 134-131, 4.52 ERA. He has been selected to 2 all star teams and came in 3rd in the 2055 JL Nebraska voting. He is 5th all time in Calgary for wins and 4th in games started and innings pitched.

Your not going to get a comp pick cause you made playoffs. If you can get a good deal, sign it and then trade him(to me). Guy is a stud.

Ended up being a reasonable extension given his excellence and the anticipated price of FA pitching.

Well he resigned. So now I will have cap issues until I deal someone.
