Two Pioneers Win Zimmer Awards

There won't be much hardware coming back to Calgary this season, but it has been announced that two of the team's player have won Zimmer Awards. Starting pitcher Edmond Thomas and third baseman Ollie Long are this year's winners.

Thomas had his winningest season with a 16-8 record in 32 starts. His 2.5 ZR led the league. Unfortunately he also led the league giving up 32 home runs. This is the second year in a row that Thomas has led the JL in that category. Teammates Bob English and Shinsui Hasegawa each received a single vote for the Zimmer.

For Long this will be his second Zimmer as he also won the award in 2059. His 8.5 ZR led the JL and was also his personal best. Otherwise, this was a disappointing season for Long. He posted personal lows with his .289 AVA and 136 hits. He has had over 2oo hits 6 times and his previous low was 197. Long missed about 25 games due to injury, but his season was coming up short besides that. He did pass the 1500 hit mark this year and at 28 he still is on track to flirt with 3000.
