Vaive Blazes Into the BBA
Calgary CF Justin Vaive made his debut in 2062 and was almost everything that was advertised. He led the league in stolen bases, scored 112 runs, held his own in the field and posted a 4.3 WAR.
"I don't know if I have ever had a guy that so many teams have tried to trade for," said Pioneer's GM Kevin Dickson. "They all got the same answer. No."
Vaive may be the fastest player in the league. He broke records in the minors on the basepaths and everyone wondered if it would continue into the BBA, particulary since he was skipping AAA and coming straight from AA Edmonton. At Edmonton last season he stole 127 bases and was only caught 8 times. In his 2 seasons at A ball Quebec he stole 272 bases and was thrown out 22 times. Well at Calgary this season he was 84-8 leading the whole league and it wasn't even close.
In CF, he posted a 4.3 ZR. He should improve on this during his sophomore year. He hit .261 with a .345 OBA, however he struck out 162 times, 2nd in the JL. His offseason training will be focused on that. Improving his OBA and reducing his strikeouts.
